The tall bloom is my late RVR. I laugh...most of my collection fit on the bench! Now it fills the side yard. Near freezing temps in a week. I know what I'm doing this weekend!!!

I do believe I bought a "Rembrandt Van Rijn" many years ago from Royal Colors. I also think it must have been one of the bulbs that succumbed to the narcissus bulb fly invasion I suffered at a later date, as it's no longer a part of my collection.

Royal Colors no longer carries this one? I wonder if they'd be able to point you in the right direction regarding finding one?

This bulb has supposedly been out of production for years....but I'll still follow up any leads for fresh, healthy bulbs. A couple years ago I bought bulbs from a seller in California who swore they had RVR bulbs. They ended up being a nondescript orangey-red bloom.

I think they are sold as cut flowers, so there is always hope....

No problem Kristi As I bounce around looking for things I will definitely look for RVR. I noticed the vendor in Florida, which is why I asked Someone must have one somewhere, right? - J

The FL vendor still hasn't taken the listing down, as of last time I checked. Unfortunately, their grower sent a different bulb, and they don't have RVR. Since these have been out of production for years, and the seller likely got 1000+ bulbs labeled as Rosy Star, these being true RVRs is unlikely.

Well, I would say anyone's best bet of finding a variety that is out of production is from a private seller, like one would find on Ebay... so, it might be an advantage to keep auction sites in mind. Or perhaps keep a watch on sites where people trade plant materials and seeds.

I've been out of the buying loop for a while, now... but if I were to look for anything in particular, I'd probably search auction sites, and look for sites where people trade bulbs... or perhaps bulb societies and groups.

Jodi thanks for the suggestion, and don't think I haven't tried. I've not gotten a true RVR yet. i'm not giving up!!
