Michael,

If your amaryllis is blooming now then it has to grow it's leaves to nourish the bulb for many many months. I wouldn't even think about how to make the plant go dormant until early fall of 2014. Feed the bulb which feeds the leaves and in Zone 6 for the summer you can put your plant outside in the yard with several or more hours of sun and it will rejuvenate the bulb which is necessary for it to ever bloom again.

Feed about once a week with a half strength miracle grow solution and don't keep it too wet.

Ask your question again next fall about dormancy and you should get many answers but for now just grow the bulb in a sunny window in the house for the winter and then outside it goes for the summer!
