Ummh... Errrmh...Bulbs are not sterile.It is fair to assume that the surface harbours several microorganisms.If I desired sterile bulbs for a purpose then I would apply a warm water bath 2h / 46 deg CELSIUS then dip into diluted Sodium-Permanganate Solution or such other disinfecting agent.

I have a good number of seedlings from a cross of Apple Blossom x Lady Jane. Now some say that Apple Blossom doesn't set seedpods and you can only use it's pollen, but, I beg to differ (with Apple Blossom anyway). Now some will say my plant is not a clone of the original Apple Blossom, but here are some pictures and you can make up your own mind. And I think I remember others saying they have seedlings with AP, but I'm not sure if it was the seed parent.

and the seeds were all brown with some lighter spots and I didn't hold out much hope for these due to their strange appearance BUT, ALL of these seeds germinated and are all growing nicely!! Really!!

I apologize because I know you weren't looking for proof as to whether or not Apple Blossom is "seed sterile", but I couldn't resist...!!

I think he was just making a joke of the word "sterile" which can mean "germ free" as well as the way we think of the word sterile.. not being able to have babies whether human or bulb babies!! ;-) I think it got "lost in translation"!
