Hard to see, but in the photo it looks like a huge bloom but I don't see the scape... Is it short?

Yes, it's my new creation with big flowers. You are right the scape is short, it may have a problem itself, not sure. Next blossom, I'll watch it again.

Dear Js, it takes 2-3 years from seed to first blossom, sometimes much longer.

As to the first specimen, the scape is short, due to infection with bulb scale mites, which is well visibly indicated by the younger leaf with a red edge.
