This bulb I dug up is supposed to be an Amaryllis, but it has only one root, I will try to get a picture of it on here using imageshack.[URL=http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/809/pc042792.jpg/ ][IMG=http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/3909/pc042792.th.jpg][/IMG][/ URL]

You need to copy the HTML code, this forum uses that as opposed to BB Code!

I don't know what it is, but it doesn't look like an amaryllis to me, but you're right, it's got ONE root!

thanks for helping with her picture Carol

It looks like an Amaryllis belladonna to me. At first I considered a Sprekelia, but these have rather thinner roots.

Are the layers like an onion, or are they scales like an artichoke? Could be an Asiatic Lily.

RE: strange bulb

It definitely looks layered, more like an amaryllid... but which one... hmmm.

RE: strange bulb

how can I go about finding out what it is? I would like to know how to take care of it(whatever IT is) the right way.

RE: strange bulb

Liz,

The first think you need to do is pot it up, let it grow and post pictures of the leaves and hopefully eventually the bloom. Take care of it like you would any other houseplant but be careful to be light with the water as bulbs tend to rot quickly inside.

It's almost impossible to ID based on the bulb alone, you can never be too certain. With the damage the bulb looks to have it is even more difficult to tell what it could be. Did your friend have any pictures of it? Did she describe the way it looked?

Josh
