I got 2 of those last year and gave them as gifts, they did pretty good. They grew roots, flowers, and leaves. It took some TLC but they made it.

It's fairly common for a bulb to be rootless, but it is usually because all the roots died during storage. Since they are sold at a time when they are ready to wake up from dormancy, they'll usually start producing roots fairly quickly. Sometimes it takes longer and may not root until after flowering is complete. There was a spike in the bulb? Maybe something to keep it from falling? Toppling is a problem with rootless bulbs.

Um... The bulbs were stuck into a base that had spikes that went into the bottom of the bulbs, but not into the root disc area. They held up the bulbs in some rocks. Like a cleat disc basically.

Thanks for the info, I kinda figured they could be rooted again since I see bare bulbs sold all the time at stores. Is there anything special I can do to help them out? I've read to soak the bulbs in warm water but that was for ones already rooted.

I use Rhizopon normally!

with new amaryllis bulbs as with many of my tropical corms/roots..i give them dose of b vitamin,kelp powder,and amino acids.. seems to stimulate root growth..especially when starting overwintered/dormant plants in new growing season..

Well I do have some rooting powder but I think its too strong as everything I have attempted to root with it has burned. I guess I'll do what I can... Doesn't sound like there is much hope. I will just be sure to not fall for such a scam again. To be fair my jar had nothing said about a "finished product" just "Giant Amaryllis".
