Removing layers

I picked up a bulb at Lowes today. It looked pretty good, but I wanted to double-check it when I got home. I started peeling off the papery layers but then accidentally peeled a piece off the thicker, white layer. I feel horrible. Have I damaged the bulb or hurt it in any way? I appreciate your help.

You haven't hurt a thing!...just give it some TLC and it will give you blooms!!

Much like peeling an onion, sometimes a part of an older, papery layer will still have some living tissue attached... but like Kristi says, no harm done. It will be fine. The outer layer will eventually change to the proper consistency to protect itself. You haven't hurt it.
