Bulbs dipped in silver and gold?

Apparently it's now a "thing" to dip live bulbs in metallic substances to make them more "festive."

I saw this online and immediately thought "what the what?!" Han Solo in carbonite also came to mind. Have any of you seen these dipped bulbs in person? What is that stuff they're dipped in? Paint? Wax? The description says due to the special preparation they give the bulbs, there's "no need to water or feed." They intend for people to bloom them dry.

The local grocery store has poinsettias spray-painted and spray-glittered in various colors, including blue. They call it decorative, I call it plant abuse. But they haven't messed with the hippis yet.
