Mine is still a few days away. I fell in love with this bloom when I saw it at the Keukenhof Amaryllis show in March 2010 and was very excited to introduce it to the list via photos with growers' promises that it would be available this season.

I am so glad you are pleased with yours Xuan...I hope my blooms are every bit as pretty! Since it was widely available, from several sources, it will be intresting to see if there is much variation.
    :-)

    Oh Huan,

How very beautiful...I just love the sweet color and the veining! I too have one, I bought it on Ebay and it didn't come too me in the best of condition... but I do expect one flower stalk to bloom, if it's half as pretty as yours I will be so over joyed..!! Thanks for sharing yours and not making us guess what it is!

Here are just 2 of the photos of Sweet Nymph at Keukenhof. I took over 700 photos at that show. She was my favorite new variety on display.

Xuan, it is hard to see from the photos but I find that my doubles will often use the styles and stigmas as the "rib" of the double petals. I don't know if you know what I mean, but, some of the inner petals will have a thick "spine" on which the petal is expressed. These are often the styles and will have a stigma at the very tip-- it'll usually even look like a quarter or 1/3 of the stigma of a single-petaled flower. I haven't tried pollinating many doubles except one from Maguire's, and it didn't take. But my guess is my flowers failure was a matter of being self-sterile.

Looking at your first group of photos, I would say there are definitely stigmas on your blooms. Whether they run the length of the petal I cannot tell.

Good luck if you plan on selfing.

    Xuan,

You have lots of lovely pollen there, and at the least, you can use it on some of you lovely peachy crosses that you posted some time ago. Every attempt I've tried at selfing a double hasn't taken. But.. on several occasions I have had a partial stigma with maybe 1 or 2 lobes. The next time, I would try cutting the partial stigma deep in the flower and dousing liberally with pollen. It can't hurt, and who knows some day one of us will get lucky. I don't think that I see a partial stigma on your flowers though, but it doesn't mean that there isn't one hidden in there.

Here is a picture of a very short stigma, (you can see the 3 chambers and 3 lobes) on my Indian Fairy. I should have cut this stigma before I applied the pollen, (I did apply much more pollen than shows on these pictures) of course, one never knows if this variety is self sterile, so all attempts may be for naught. I wish you luck and with your bounty of pollen you will be able to pick and choose what other varieties you wish to pollinate.

and Xuan, just in case you aren't familiar with Indian Fairy, here is a picture...as you can see, it is double...

Donna, Indian Fairy is lovely! I wish I had gotten one of those! If you ever have an extra offset, maybe we can make a Maguire's trade?

Noni, I don't think it's too late, just because they are no longer listing it on their website, they may still have some. There is a tentative wish list (if you didn't know) on LP and if you're not a member then Ryan will start a wish list for you, as he has done for others...No offsets yet, if you can believe it, I have a waiting list for offsets, I'm just relieved that the bulb is growing nice healthy green leaves.....(actually, they all are so far) If you didn't want to bother Ryan, I can post your wish list for you if you have some that are no longer on the website but you would love to have...no problem at all....

Donna, thank you very much for your explanation and photo illustration.
In fact, I've found there're stigmas in all three of the blooms so far and I have tried pollinate one which shows most clearly.
There's a note, though, that one of the blooms looks like a "single" (!). Maybe the revert of a parental trace in this bulb.

Your Idian Fairy is definitely a winner. I really really love it.

Ooh, If you've got a single Xuan, that might me your best chance of selfing (I assume you were going to self it) hopefully the single sigma will be well formed enough to be successful for you...good luck,..

Donna, I can't think what "LP" is. Wanta send me a website or hot link? I would love to start a new order for Maguires!
Even sacrificing the occasional virused one is worth it to me for the surprise value of the blooms. And thank you for your help!

Thanks, Donna. I've self-ed the single stigma, too.
