My local bank branch - Citizens Bank, in the Stop and Shop grocery in Lexington, MA - keeps a betta fish in a ONE QUART jar on its counter. No heat, no filtration, no plants, no nothing. When I point out that its housing is inadequate, they defend it saying "the pet store says its OK".

I know, its just a fish. But its also public education. If people see them treating it this way, they will think its just fine. They need a heated, filtered tank with 3-5 gallons minimum.
