Betta with clear spots on fins

My daughter has a dark blue (almost black) Betta as a pet at her college dorm. For the past couple of months, we have "inherited" the Betta at our home since her dorm is too cold for it.

The Betta seems very healthy, eats well, flares at his reflection, and swims around normally. The tank is a 1 gallon tank (limited dorm space) with a 7 watt light to heat it. Water is changed frequently and kept at 75 - 78 degrees.

One thing I have noticed is that his lower fin is beginning to get "see through" spots in a couple of places. These are not near the edges of the fin, but are less than half way out from his body. Is he just changing as he ages? His small swimming fins have always been almost clear since she got him.

I have read books and searched websites, but none of the diseases listed there sound like this. Is this an illness or just a change in his coloration?
