Crazy Gouramis?!

Hello agian all. I have been noticing today that my two gouramis are acting like crack-heads. They swim very very fast up to the top..Like they would jump out if the glass wasnt shut. They are going so fast sometimes that it sounds like they are ramming into the glass cover on the top! It looks like sooner or later they are going to knock themselves out! Has anyone seen their fishes do that? Is there anything I can do.. Doesnt seem like it.. But who knows. Anyones help!!!

What type of gouramis do you have??

RE: Crazy Gouramis?!

Did you change anything about the tank? Water...new rocks...new heater or filter?
Are there any other fish with the Gouramis? Has their behavior changed?

RE: Crazy Gouramis?!

Nothing has changed. I have one three-spotted gourami and one golden. I also have 4 discus ,3 mollies and a suckerfish. They have always done this since the beginning. But seem to be doing it more lately. Other than that, they seem fine swimming and eating fine. What could this be?

They are anabatoids - that means they can breathe atmospheric air. Are you leaving some airspace between the water surface and the glass cover?

Are they fighting? Golds are pretty aggressive. Do you know the sex of the fish?

RE: Crazy Gouramis?!

I cant tell the sex.. Ive been trying to figure it out. I THINK that they are both male though. And actually it is the three-spotted one that is chasing the golden. There is some space between the glass and water, should it be a certain distance? Mabey I have the water too close. I know they breathe air.. but I never know they could come out that far.

I'm not certain if you've had these gouramis since they were small... and now they're just coming into maturation and thus more aggressive behavior. Sounds like they're dueling it out.

Some gouramis are definitely more aggressive than others. Mine are pretty peaceful, but they really tear into any live plants I may have.

Some ARE sexually dimorphic. Like I can tell the difference with my pearls. Search through the web - sometimes its a matter of the difference in the ventral or dorsal fins.

With blues and golds it's the shape of the dorsal fin. The males is more pointed and longer the females are more rounded..It's easy to find pics if you need them just search for sexing gouramis..
