hmmm... I thought the way a bio wheel worked was because of the water pouring through in addition to oxygen being involved in some way? I'm not certain how long the bacteria will live without that sort of action going on??

So if you're trying to preserve the bacteria in the biowheel while driving cross-country - I'm not certain if you'll have viable bacteria by the time you arrive in your new home.

Yes...I'm waiting for the move. I plan on having the new tank set up quite a few weeks ahead of time.

Hannah, Get a bubble box. It's a small battery powered air pump and you can get them in walmart/kmart/bait tackle shops. They are used to keep bait alive but work great. You might want to get two so you can keep the wheel and the fish seperate. Put the pump bubbler on the bottom of a container and rig the bio wheel so it gets drenched in the bubbles. you may want to add a few drops of ammonia to the water during the trip to feed the bacteria as well. I'd use some tank water and an eye dropper to test the water before hand and keep the ammonia at 2-4 ppm during the trip.

The suggestion by envirocop is wrong. Its best to keep the biowheel in a bubbly portable tank thats battery operated. Good luck!
