| A lot of land plants are being sold these days as aquarium plants. One way to tell the difference is - land plants have stiff stems and will stay upright when you take them out of the water. They have silica in the stems, whereas true aquatic plants don't. |

so,stiff stems and silica make difference between the land plant and aquatic plant. Sounds good. |

| Yes. Think about it - land plants need stiff stems to hold them upright, aquatic plants don't. It's gravity that land plants need to overcome. Aquatic plants are upright because they float in the water. Some land plants will do okay grown as aquatic plants, though, but it isn't their nature. |
