In Texas, shortnose gar may be found in the Red River basin below Lake Texoma. I don't know if that helps you but that's what I found. They spawn from about May to July so if you're looking for babys around this time would be when to do it. Shortnose gar may be captured by entangling the teeth in nylon threads.

Spotted gar are very widespread, and can be found from central Texas east into western Florida. Spotted gar spawn from April to May.

Both species prefer the shallow clam waters and the young feed mostly on insects and such.

I don't know if this helped at all, but there it is. Not entirely sure why you would want any. They grow to a pretty decent size with some really nasty teeth, but good luck to you I guess.
