Amazing color changing water

i recently inherited about 6 rather large goldfish. and i'm not stranger to having fish but for the life of me i can't figure out why the water is changing color - orange. its almost like the color is leaching out of the fish into the water. someone please help me!

It sounds like something in the tank is dissolving into the water. The first suspects are the gravel or something like a piece of wood which leaches tanins in the water. Wood like the roots sold at pet stores or PetSmart are a dark brown and will leach into the water.

After a time, normally two months or so the wood will stop leaching into the water. Just do regular water changes and the fish will be fine.
