How long before they say 'howdy'?

I just bought a couple replacement buddies for my fish today. A clown loach, about 2" long to replace on that died not too long ago. The other loach already there is about 4" and nice and plump.

Same with my silver dollars. The new kid is maybe 1 1/2" from nose to tail and the the one I already have is 6" from nose to tail. Will the bigger fish take the smaller ones 'under their wing or fin' or just ignore them until they are bigger? Do they have any sort of parental instinct in this?

So far the Silver Dollar junior is hanging out near the big one (Are you my daddy?)

The clown loach is in hiding and nowhere to be seen but I am not alarmed as it is only day one.

I bought smaller ones as I understand they take the transition to a new tank more easily. The tank got a good cleaning last night. Gravel vacuum, filter medium change, and so on. Water conditioner was used as was Cycle (bacterial addition).

Everything sound OK so far? How do you think the babies will do?
