The only species of African Cichlids that will do well in a tank that small are Lamprologus brevis or perhaps a pair of west africans such as`Pelvicachromis pulcher.

this is also good if interested in malawi (this is most common type seen in stores) for some reason garden web wont allow this www.malawicichlidhomepage.com it give recomendations for smaller set ups. A 55 gal.+ is best for most africans.

Thanks every one for the great sites! I am goig to save up for a larger tank(maybe 15 gallons?) I am still unsure weather i will get cichlids or not. Thanks again!

if you want to go slightly bigger than 10 a 20gal long is a nice size. It should only cost about $25. You can get filters and other things on the web like (Drs foster smith) cheaper. That size tank isn't suitable for most cichlids but some dwarf ones are cool and will be OK. Both sites have articles on smaller set ups. If you aquascape right you will do fine. The cichlid forum has "cookie cutter" set ups for different size tanks and has great pics in the profile section so you can see what they look like. I am really bad at the scientific names and the pics really help.
