Just starting up a aquarium. Only have water and some glass pieces in the bottom..wanting to get some plants. I live in the boonies so to get things I need to drive a hour or more away. What are good plants to get??? I want to do a tropical tank.I am thinking maybe guppies. I like java fern and those lil banana plants. What other plants are good to get?

I love rotala indica. Doesn't need a lot of light and is very attractive.

Java moss is very useful and hard to kill, looks great attached to rocks or driftwood.

The various anubias are also great to look at and need no special care. A little on the costly side, but worth it!

I like duckweed. But if it doesn't get enough light, and I mean it has to be pretty dark, it can start to look scraggly.

My experience with banana plants is they require a little more light then a "standard" aquarium bulb/tube. The Java Ferns should do fine. Try the link below. They have fair prices and the shipping fee is $12 flat rate. Also visit the set-up articles it has some useful info
