Putting in driftwood harm water?

Hello,

I was wondering if a person puts driftwood (that you get from a lake)in an aquarium, will it upset the aquarium balance at all? I recall being told once that it wasn't a good idea, but I think they were just trying to sell me a preserved piece of wood.

Thanks in advance for anyone who has some experience!

Its very simple and everyone should know this information. Never, ever place anything in aquariums not tended for aquariums!!! That includes collecting things outside (the lakes too) and buying from the crafts department.
