How would I go about lowering the pH. All that I have read has spooked me on using pH down. One method I had read was to mix my tap water with some distilled water to lower it. What is your advice?

The local fish shop should have a product with Sodium Biphosphate, which may be the product called pH Down. I would use a little bit of it and gradually bring pH lower. What spooked you? I'm not familiar with the distilled / tap water approach. Here's the thing, though. if he is acting happy, you may not want or need to mess with it.

Looking at the 3 sites, the average temp is ~80 F and pH is ~7.0. But they are also very tolerant of a wide range. So maybe it's best to leave him be. Whatever you do... do it gradually.
