variegated monstera on eBay

I have a kinda weird hobby of watching auctions on eBay that I don't intend to bid on, just to see what the plants finally sell for.
A variegated monstera just sold for slightly over $180.00!! Can you believe that? I bought mine for $25!

'S funny--people talk all the time about the great bargains on eBay, but I see a that kind of things too. Don't watch it much, but it seems like there are as many over-priced even quite common things as there are bargains. Maybe I'll be tempted sometime, but not yet! Guess there might possibly be something I'd spend that much for, but I think it'd have to be one of those autions to benefit the local Horticulture Society or other such--

I got Au$150 for a 6" Vriesea hieroglyphica seedling , thats a bit ridiculous , but on the other hand a Dracontium croatii I listed for $15 ended up going for nearly $100 .. some ultra rare plants do not even get a bid , very strange .. a Philo callosum just finished not a bid and only $15 listing again , can;t get that easily .

P. callosum on ebay recently? Where did you see that? Or do you mean p. rugosum?--that species is still lingering in the philodendron category.

I had it listed on eBay Australia , might keep it now and plant out a colony , might have more luck setting seeds .
Have heard of seed set in USA so it may be become available .. What do you mean by this statment ...
that species is still lingering in the philodendron category. Do you think it belongs in another genera ?
P. callosum has a very typical infloresence for Philo's.

Ok, I was looking at eBay USA. Lingering meaning it didn't sell the first time.

Hi
Have never bought anything on E bay as I've yet to see a bargain lol Have often wondered if the seller doesn't bid on the item?? They seem to go up right before closing lol.
Was just reading about a man who bought a bracelet for 15,000 dollars and the "diamonds" are glass.
And I thought I was being too paranoid at spending 50 without seeing the object. They had a large Coelogyne pandurata orchid for 50. Had 5 flowering growths supposedly.
Oh well gary

You obviously need to know what you are buying, but some items are only available on places like ebay....when is the last time you have seen a D. croatii for sale comercially?? I can not afford $100 for it, but for those who can it may be the only chance they will ever have to own it. A couple of years ago I offered the odd little aroid, Ariopsis peltata on ebay....at the time it was not available anywhere else in the world outside of India....$7 seemed high, but I sold a few.....not sure that was a bargain or not, but the buyer has to decide what the plant is worth to them I suppose...some people have the luxury of having more money to play with...wish I had that luxury :o) Dan

Oh, isn't that a luxury I'd love to have, too, Dan--plus the luxury of a strong back and a lot more space!

Does anyone have a cutting of the variegated monstera to trade?

RE: variegated monstera on eBay

I bought a variegated monstera years ago for $1.99 at Kmart of all places. Had to leave it when I moved as it had gotten so big. Never thought about it and went back a couple of years ago to see about getting a cutting. They had torn out the entire garden & put in cement every where!! Horrid! I bet that sucker would have gone for a couple thousand bucks. I'll have to knock on their door & tell them. Idiots!
I've gotten a few deals on e-bay but mostly on Renaissance costumes. Bought a couple of plants, never again unless it's amorphs. I want to SEE the plant!!
Tally HO!
