Looking for help removing out-of-control Calla Lilies!

I've inherited a section of yard that has what seems like hundreds of calla lilies growing in it. I foolishly tried to dig them up last summer, but it seems every last little bit of root that I left has now started growing a new plant. It's an area on the north side of the house, about 5 feet wide and fifty feet long. It's bordered by a fence, behind which my neighbor has plants growing. I would like to plant grass there and mow it when I cut the rest of the lawn. I've searched the forum but didn't find any info on removing them. I'm located near the coast in northern California. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of them?

You can either dig them up (and send them to me) or keep cutting back the leaves as soon as they appear. The leaves feed the bulbs so with no leaves they will die back. If you want to use an herbicide, that should work too.

Dig 'em up and trade 'em off! I wish they would grow like that for me. I hate grass.

Man I wish I could get them to grow here. I get plants, but no flowers. :(

OMG, send them to me. :) These plants grow as corms. Get the corm and you get rid of the plant. They are not as incidious as weeds or grass. Why do you want grass again?
Keep in mind that you do not have worthless weeds in your back yard and you could probably trade or sell the corms. These plants are worth over $20 in the supermarkets of NYC.
