Wainui - I winter sowed my triphyllum seed and they came up fine. It's 30* outside right now. The leaf is about 3" tall. I'm sure it will be going into some kind of dormancy before long. I think it takes about 3-4 years to reach flowering stage. I just planted in potting soil in a plastic container with a lid on it and stuck it outside. Some people don't think they need stratification, but mine did okay. Planted in January this year so it went thru a mild winter here. March has been much colder than the last two months of mostly 60s, 70s, 80s, and even 90s. That's abnormal here, though.

Some put the seed in a damp paper towel and stick in a plastic bag, seal, and put in the veg compartment in the fridge. Others use the same method, but put in a warm place to germinate. Once the seed germinates, they pot them up and grow them inside in a cool room. I just think it's better to grow them in the environment that they are grown in nature.

There's just what I was looking for! I just got some A. triphyllum seed through the NARGS seed exchange and winter sowed it. I wanted A. candidissimum, too, but they were out of that by the time my request reached even the first round of distributions.

Since they're native, I don't think you'll have much problem with them either way you decide to do it.
