It sounds like you started from a seedling or tissue culture plant. These are difficult to keep alive in colder climates unless you greenhouse it or at least a warm, suuny spot in your home. Your best bet is to see if you can find someone who sells mature plants and not seedlings or TS.

If all you can find is the seedlings or TS then keep it in a pot and move it in/out throughout the seasons so that you don't disturb it anymore than necesary.
