Old Corm from new..

Leafhead

I have several large Amorphophallus konjaks, one of which is sitting on an old corm from the previous year. The new corm seems healthy.
My question is: should I separate the old corm and discard it, or would it be better to plant them both joined. I don't want to encourage rot.
