| I read somewhere that many varieties of amorphophallus will grow larger tubers if the offsets are removed right away. It seems that the 'unpruned' tubers may have increased biomass divided among several seperate tubers/offsets, while the 'pruned' ones reach blooming size much faster.
Has anyone heard about this, or had personal experience with this practice? The article I saw discussed Konjac in specific as benefitting from this. Comments? Thanks! Rick in CT |

| Hi Rick, My understanding is exactly opposite. That is, many species will consume the offsets if they are not removed and therefore you will only have momma growing. I know from experience that some of my species where I left the offsets attached (the long stoloniferous ones) I typically only get mom up, but others this is less of an issue....albus comes to mind. In the case of konjac it is so prolific I do not think it matters much. Good luck with yours this year :o) Dan |
