As the hybridizer of A. x portora (wrongly called A. portodora by some in the trade), the idea of further hybridizing with this plant is first and foremost in my ongoing work. So far, I have determined that A. wentii is sterile because it produces no pollen at all. Without pollen, reciprocal crosses are impossible. Last year I went ahead anyway and used the A. wentii as an ovule parent and crossed it with a wide range of Alocasias I had blooming at the same time. None of the crosses took.

I am quite interested in seeing your pictures of the plants you purchased. I am confident I can identify them for you quickly.

sorry it has taken me so long to get back i have had some pc trouble it is an evil machine!! I have talked to the garden centre and they say they are labled wrong they are supposed to be A. calidora X wentii but when i get the rest of my pc problems sorted i will post some pics
