Love My Calla!

Hi All,

I love my Calla Lilly...

{{gwi:383884}}

Last year it had only one shoot, but his year it has 10 offsets and is now a 4" rhizome. It really grew a lot. I need some help with its future care...

I live on Long Island so I overwinter my Calla dormant indoors. Is it best to divide a colored Calla in the fall and store for winter, or is it best to divide in the spring before repotting? Should I let the divided rhizome callous over or is it not necessary? Do you have any other tips/ideas?

(I know this question has probably been asked but I couldn't find it in another thread so I thank you for your help)

Thanks All!

    No it is not necessary to divide the tuber before storing for the winter. In fact doing so opens the door for disease and fungus to take hold. Not sure why you would want to do this, if to increase count the plant will grow additional tubers as you have already discovered.
