Yes the small tubers you found can sprout and give you many more plants . Peeling of layer of skin can help speed of sprouting.

they did seem like they belonged with the plant. I'll have to give sprouting them a go, I must have 20 of these things. Any suggestions, peel a layer of skin, soak in water, moist soil, sand?
