Can I split newly purchased calla?

Hi,

I'm cheap.

I was wondering if newly purchased calla lillies can be split into multiple plants. The pots sold at the local nursery for 10 bucks a pop have what appear to be clearly deliniated stems coming up, often 6 or more stems to a pot.

Some pots the stems are clumped closely together, others have a fair amount of room between the steams (I'm thinking this were 6" pots??). It certainly LOOKS to me like a person could easily split the stems apart into individual plants, but I am unsure how this would work with an aroid.

I've split "rooted" plants in the past of course, and I divided some dahlia tubers this year, but that's the extent of my experience.

Anyone else had success (or failure) doing this???

Those pre-planted pots are really what you think. Each of the plants come from a separate tuber. You can separate them any time you feel like it, but be careful of the roots. When they are dormant is the best time of course.

Hmmmm

Well thank you for your response. I guess I may give it (splitting them) a go then!
