Do you mean it's not soaking up the water, or the water is just running straight through? Peace lilies are very fast growers and sometimes need annual repotting. Pull it out and check the roots, you'll know if it needs repotted. Dont mess w/the roots too much, keep it moist and it should be fine. Just sounds like there's more roots then there is soil.

Hi Jen,
About the water- it pretty much runs right through and out the bottom. The non-absorbtion came on quite quickly. It grew quite a bit after repotting. Looking at the newspapers I keep under the pot to soak up the runnoff, it seems that a lot of gritty stuff has been washed out. So should I repot him in a bigger pot?

Yes, it sounds like there isnt much soil left in that pot, just a bunch of roots. Your peace lily needs those nutrients from the soil to grow well.

Last time I repotted him, I used Schultz potting soil plus for African violets and Flowering Plants. Is that a good brand? Or is there something else that would work better?

Yes, that sounds good for the peace lily, it probably has extra peat added for moisture and that's good. I wanted to tell you not to repot too large, maybe a size or two bigger pot, they like to be potbound to flower.

You should never let the leaves get droopy before you water. It is a good practice to feel the soil to determine when to water. Sometimes, according to the weather, twice a week will be too much, and sometimes too little. When I worked in a greenhouse that had hundreds of hanging plants to water, I just walked down the line and felt the weight of the baskets to determine when to water. I do this quite often with my houseplants, too. After awhile, it gets to be second nature. Bill
