Well, I've been growing mine for the past year in 1:1:1 turface, pine bark and charcoal. They seem happy and are puttig up several petioles. I've had one go dormant and start grwoing again. I got this recipe from the guys at Phipps Conservatory here in Pittsburgh as they have a dozen large, almost blooming size specimens. I think most of us on this forum are relatively new to titanum (a year or two) so all I can suggest is extreme drainage, very careful watering and close attention to detail. Mine stay in the house all the time so that I can strictly control water. Mine get watered around once every 4 days and are pretty dry by the time they see water again, but of course, I have limited heat and humidity in the house (air conditoned and 74 in summer, heated and 68 in winter). Depending on where you are in Hawaii your climate may be much more hospitable. I would suggest contacting any of the dozen of so botanical gardens that have had one flower in the past couple of years and ask what they use for potting mix as I'm sure they would be willing to share that info. Obviously, the botanical gardens have figured it out as these are now quite commonly on the news blooming so they've all been growing them for many years now. Also, with the huge number of seed being distributed these days the species has become rather "common" compared to some others so more and more people are likely trying different conditions.
