If you are referring to Dracunculus vulgaris, I leave mine in the ground and never dig them up unless I am thinning them out. They have been growing very well, but the temps dont get below 15 degrees F. I had 9 flower this year and about 40 more that were from 8 to 24 inches tall that didnt flower. I will probably be digging them up soon and getting rid of the smaller ones.

You're in zone 6b and your temps don't get below 15 degrees F.? Wow, that's amazing. I am in zone 7a, and the zone map says 0 - 10 deg. F as minimum temps. But, with global warming, we have had some very mild winters. We may get a few single digit temps here, but they aren't usually consistent, just a day or two.

Isn't Dracunculas vulgaris hardy to zone 6, though? I have it, just started last year. It put up 3 leaves (it was a small HD bulb), and they have since died down. I think it is supposed to send up berries, and then next spring, perhaps I will get the spathe.

Well,I'm zone 7, and I had one make it through the winter one time, but this one is small, and I'm wondering if I should dry it off in the fall after the leaves die. I have visions of it not showing in the spring if I leave it out. :) arum

It's supposed to be hardy in zones 6-9, so you should be all right. I think the only thing that most aroids really hate is wet winter feet. I just usually cover mine with some mulch and so far, they've been okay - even those that are touted only to be hardy to zone 8. As I may have mentioned, though, I have a small "microclimate" in my back yard. It is protected on all sides by mature trees; faces South so it gets the warmth of the winter sun because the trees are deciduous.
