Hi Filbert,

It will rest for a couple weeks and then you'll see the leaf. If this is Typhonium venosum (aka Sauromatum venosum) then it should be planted pretty deep as the petiole gets very tall and it is thin so I find it tends to want to flop a bit even in full sun. I think the leaf and petiole are far more impressive than the flower!! Best of luck :o) Dan

Thanks for the advice. How deep is "pretty deep"? It's now about 4 inches under.

Hi Filbert,

I plant my blooming size ones 8 inches deep easy...the petiole is long and thin and flops over easy.....very pretty, but not that strong....I'd go deeper, but that's just me.....my 'Indian Giant' form are easily 10 inches below the surface as they get much, much larger. They offset like crazy so be prepared to try and figure out what to do with all the babies....I should have a couple hundred to give away this fall if people want them then :o) Dan

Just e-mail me in the fall and you can surely have some. They are all in the ground now or I'd still ship them out. I finally gave up and just created mass planting sites where I'd dig a hole and toss in a dozen or so....hard telling how those will do, but as hardy as these are I do not think they will care :o) Dan
