Variegated Xanthosoma Question

I have a variegated xan, much like Mickey Mouse but without the curling leaves. The white part of the leaves is usually along the leaf edge, sometimes long, small areas (like Chile' on a map of South America) and other times larger, more rounded white areas. The white part seems to melt away, leaving odd shaped leaves with 'bays' edged by white. The white edge may have a slight brown edging where it melted away. It doesn't look like bug damage. Has anyone else had this experience? What can I do to stop the melting away of the white leaf parts? It is in light shade.
