Got them, now, how to keep them

Hello all, haven't been on this forum for quite a while but I need your expertise. I recently found a fantastic sale on tropicals and got some lovely colocasia and alocasia as well as heliconium. I don't see an FAQ here and in my brief foray into the care and keeping on the internet all I have found is a comment that other than EEs, treat them as annuals and toss them since they do not develop large corms. Well, I don't believe that for a minute and I would like to hear how you care for yours in the winter months. Right now they are sitting in the top of the Skippy filter for my pond, in partial sunlight with pot bottoms sitting 2 to 3 inches deep in the circulating water. The pots are 8 inches tall. I have a basement that can be kept 65 to 70oF and lots of flouresent lights for seed germination and heat pads if needed. Suggestions, please with lots of details. Sandy
