Hi Have done that for several years in both aquarium and ponds. Almost all the Colo-Alocasia can be done that way. Not sure how effective it is as a filter as I change about 20 gallons of water per day from a 1200 gallon setup. Most tropical aroids will adapt to this type culture. If you can provide the heat gary
I have colocasia black magic planted in my pond. They do great there. I just rinsed the soil off the rooted, potted plants and placed them in between the rocks in the side of the pond. The only difference between that and putting them in the filter is that they would probably even do better in the filter because of the aeration of the roots. Go ahead and give it a try.
Hi, thanks for the responses. Mmmmmmh, on thinking about it I may struggle with the outdoor temps here as we are definately not tropical, especially this year! I got mine in spring and as I've never seen them for sale before I thought it looked rather interesting and would add to my 'tropical' collection. I only have the one growing in what now appears to be a very undersized pot in my g/h at present and so far it has sprouted a couple of offspring. Crikey, the main bulbs leaves are like dustbin lids! I was amazed at the size of them, the largest is 18" long and still growing. I grow it permanently standing in a saucer of water. When could I detach the offsets from the main bulb, when it has died down and gone dormant? I guess there will be a small bulb formed. Knowing almost nothing about them any tips are welcome.....Thanks : ¬ ) Gill.
