That looks like a Colocasia (having an extremely bad hair day). Definitely not an Alocasia. If they get damage to the tuber you'll get a lot of pup development, sort of a survival response. Although they don't like to dry out, wet AND cold will damage them. They naturally grow in swamps/very wet areas in the tropics. They can take a lot of sun if there's plenty of water. But fertiliser requirements aren't high, they prefer a very organic soil. So some sun, some light fertilising, plenty of water and warmth.

The 'mother' tuber has probably rotted out but that shouldn't affect the pups as long as they get the right conditions. If you're increasing their sun exposure, do it gradually.

A neighbor suggested I repot them so I did, they were root bound. Problem might be i only had top soil available, should I repot and add some compost?

I would re-pot, nothing good is going to happen with them being potted in top soil. Depends on the top soil but usually not enough organic material and it tends to dry out and get rock hard.

I'm pretty sure they've got spider mites or aphids. You can wash those off of the backs of the leaves when you see them (with water and with your hand if the water doesn't move them.) That should help a lot.
