Well, I kind of give them whatever I have, but very often. I'm sure there is probably some perfect food for these, but mine seem to grow like weeds with whatever I give them. I've found that I get the best growth when it's hot and humid. During that time, I probably feed them something every week, at 1/2 strength from what is recommended on the fertilizer pkg.

Thanks, Kevin. I just sprinkled and watered in some organic 10-10-10 (Espoma) around mine, and top dressed my hitchhiker with mushroom compost. Will keep you posted on progress.

Probably could, but the smell and the flies???? I bought some more Espoma yesterday at Lowe's. They had organic nitrogen 23-0-0 for foliage plants and trees, etc. Thought that would work nicely for my ears.

Mine all get a dilute fish emulsion every time I water. They seem happy with that. Once in a while they will get a general fertilizer if I'm in rhe process of watering/fertilizing the garden. They get orchid food when I feed the orchids, they sit next to them and who wants to waste water? And they have gotten plumeria food a couple of times too. Seems like I dump the leftovers on them doesn't it? They do fine though. TallyHO!

What if mine are in pots, inside my living room? Can't use fish emulsion. Can I work in some Osmocote (14-14-14)into the soil and water them afterwards?

Speaking of feeding them meat... poke a fish head in the ground somewhat near it and it's like a time-release fertilizer! A friend of mine from Taiwan taught me that. We do it all the time. You just have to make sure you bury it deep enough so the varmits don't dig it up.

My Alocasias don't like near as much fert as my Colocasias. I get deformed leaves on the Alocasias when fed too much. It may be cultivar specific as my Alocasia macrorrhiza 'Black Stem' likes more than my 'pink stem' or aurora.
