I bought about 10 small ones (1 1/2 - 2")at our local Farmers' Market about 3 months ago. I left them in a paper bag till they started to show root and tip growth and then planted them in the garden. Now all are sprouted and the leaves are getting larger as each successive one appears, All the leaves appear to be a good, clear green with red tints around the edges and on the petioles. I doubt they will survive the winter here in zone 6-7 but they only cost me a total of less than $2 so treating them as annuals with replacement each year is probably the way I'll treat them, and, who knows, they may survive.

If you are near Toronto, you might want to visit the Toronto Botancial Garden, I toured it last week. In their Kitchen Garden, they have planted an number of grocery store tubers including eddoes for this year's Caribbean theme. All are growing well!
