Bump

I've been racking ny brain to remember, but I grew up in the PNW a LONG time ago and have been gone a long time. It just occurred to me my oldest son just moved here from Seattle to help take care of his very sick father, and I bet it says in his Flora of the Pacific Northwest. I'll ask him tomorrow. Should have thought of it sooner.

'Flora' says pretty much what you said--green to reddish, a one to two seeded berry imbedded in the stalk. I read somewhere they should be starting to wrinkle but not too much. Don't know how accurate that is. Often when gathering seeds in the wild if they aren't quite ripe (or you're not sure they are) you can pick the whole stem and wait for it to ripen on its own.
Sorry I was so slow getting back to this. I generally go online when everyone else is asleep, and I tend to forget everything the next day!
