Thai Giant bloom - normal?

My Thai Giant Colocasia has started to bloom. I've never seen this arrangement of bloom stalks. Is it normal, or due to stress? We've had 90 degree temps for weeks, very little rain. I planted it several weeks ago (late), it gets drip irrigation, and is growing well.
