It seems that the smaller the bulb is the more leaves they put out. Also smaller bulbs tend to produce daughter bulbs more readily. Coversly the larger the bulb gets the fewer daughter bulbs and # of leaves. I grew a tuber to 40lbs in five years before it bloomed. But I believe they may bloom once they get the size of a large grapefruit. They are highly susptable to rot. So be advised. Each winter I remove mine from the plastic pots, dry the tubers and treat any areas of rot.
