It probably is, konjac being one of the more common varieties. It's often very hard to tell without a flower- which from the size of the leaf this one will this winter.

Uncle said it has been blooming for years. It was blooming when I brought it home... (with the car windows rolled down). Don't have that pic here at work, It was huge maroon color on a 4ft stem. Rather homely really, but still made people as what in the @*!# is that?

Looks like konjac to me, altho I don't grow them, I've seen them a lot on this forum. Are you in Kansas? I used to live there - now live in OKC. I plan to buy one next spring, but would love to try peaonifolius, too.

I have mostly colocasias and alocasias, one pinellia, one arum, and a couple of jacks.

I lived in Southeast Kansas, in a very small town called Neodesha, and the somewhat larger city of Independence.

You have Xanthosoma 'Lime Light'? Very nice. I assume you grow most of yours indoors during the winter? I can grow some of the hardier ones in my yard, and with a microclimate, am able to push to zone 8 on some things, even though I live in zone 7a. Lovely pics of your plants there. Everything here is closely resembling crispy critters, except for my colocasias/alocasias. My colocasia esculenta fontanesii has put up a bloom pod, so I can't wait until it opens.

Yes, I know those towns. A bloom, how exciting. How tall is the plant? I bought limelight for a "center piece" in one of my shade containers. I will force them to go dormant before it freezes, dig up and store in my cool basement until nex spring.

Oh, lucky you, to have a basement. I used to grow plants in my basement (when I had one) under flourescent lights.

The fontanesii is about 4-5 feet tall, known as the black-stemmed one. Although the stems look to be a very dark purple. It has pretty foliage, too. The blooms is supposed to be very nice on it. Can't wait. I sent you a private e-mail.
