The plant is bareroot in your biological filter? If it's a good filter operating efficiently, it's quite likely the bacteria are actually consuming all the micro nutrients and not leaving any for the plants- they are better consumers than the plants. With a good biological filter you don't need to put filtering plants in your filter -and will only fail with them. I would pull it out and pot it up with a good dose of fertilizer.

Looks like an iron deficiency to me, too. But it definitely is being zapped of all nutrients.

Hi Lynn, My filter is a large plastic flower pot. I put the elephant ear in to hide the filter material and no one knows it a filter.I have the same set up in another pond and the e.e. are a normal color.I have hundreds of this variety of e.e so if it dies i can replace it.I like it so i hope it lives.Everyone who see it like it better than the original.john

I definitely see the need to put the plant there. Those babies will certainly provide you with an everending supply of replacements! At least you know you pond is in good shape with such a good filter!

It is pretty! Some of these plants, under stressful conditions, do some very cool things! I recall the picture someone posted here awhile back, of the colocasia esculenta 'Illustris' in full sun! It was gorgeous, with bronzy leaves.
