Titan at Brooklyn Botanical Garden

Got my first glimpse of a titan bloom in person last saturday at the brooklyn botancial garden. This was the first bloom on the plant in 67 years. Of all the places I could have gone last weekend, I by chance went to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden on a day when the titan was in bloom. I just can't be so lucky. There are benefits to having a girl friend in Staten Island. Sorry for the picture quality, I didn't have a camera with me, so I bought one of those disposable ones.

You mean to tell me they emptied their beautiful bonsai greenhouse for this big, sticky aroid. Give me a two- hundred year old Japanese black pine or Fukien Tea any day over a flower that smells like rotting flesh! BBG has a wonderful bonsai collection and this room is used to display them. Now it will be weeks before the stench of the Amorphophallus titanus clears enough put the bonsai back.

Now, before I get the hate mail, I do love those aroids and the very special Brooklyn Botantical Garden. Congrats!

Appreciate the pics, King. Certainly better than NO pics!

Yes, and probably because people get sticky fingers around bonsai. Just protecting the collection.
