You really shouldn't because they do not have enuf time to get established, and if they get cold & wet they may rot. If they have low light requirements you can overwinter them in the house or garage, otherwise you can trim,clean and dry the bulbs and keep them dormant in the refridgerator. The grasses will have a much better chance, besides they won't die & you can "deadhead" them in the spring if they look too shabby. Also tell me what kind of ear you are talking about so I can give more specialized information.

I am still planting mine... don't know about ornamental grasses though. I think they are supposed to be separated and moved in the fall, though... will have to look at my notes.

Ornamental grass can be divided and planted in either spring or fall. Actually, they're so tough, you could probably do it anytime during the growing season.

I am planning on planting out my Illustris, Black Magic, and Fontanesii this weekend. We shouldn't get frost until late October, so that will give them plenty of time.

Hi from zone 7 LI,NY . Sure you can transplant them especially the ornamental grasses just WATER,WATER,WATER as we have been very dry up here in the northeast ... and lots of organics like compost,horse manure,fish emulsion,alfalfa cubes and WATER!!! As you can see I have a large bill with Suffolk County Water Authority but a very green yard! Have a great weekend!
