This new plant of mine looks like it could be related to the caladium or another aroid family. Hope someone can help. It hasn't a spathe at the moment.

We call that a Calathea Lindlenii (may have misspelled that). Other people classify it as an Alocasia by the same name.

I don't think the photo posted above, is this, but I posted another photo on the 'name that plant' forum, and you have helped me ID that one! I think it's 'Calathea allouia' found after adding your info. I had looked at the Calatheas first, but couldn't find what you found!

Yes, this is an Aroid. It is Xanthosoma Lindenii Magnificum. Some argue it is a Caladium, but you will find all the info you need on the net under the Xanthosoma name.

Thanks aroidgardener, I didn't look it up and thought I recalled it as an alocasia, not a xantho! I don't have this particular plant in my collection, wish I did.

This has been recently [about 5 years ago] been renamed as a Caladium ! Personally I think it has more similarities with Homalomena , in that it does not really have a tuber . But the experts go on the flowers ! I have never seen one in flower .

I totally agree!! Perhaps if Homalomena wendlandii crossed with Homalomena picturata this would be the result! Anyone ever tried any crosses with South American Homalomenas? I think this would be quite interesting ! Michael M.
