David I HIGHLY recommend that you plant the seed in soil in a pot big enough that you won't have to shift the plant until its first dormancy. I planted about 2,000 decus-silvae in seed trays about a year ago and pricked them out and planted them in individual pots when they had their first leaves. I lost the lot within 2 weeks of re-planting them.
The next lot I planted in their own post and they are all growing strong, my conclusion is that they don't like being moved!

By the way, my gigas are just starting to sprout, it seems to take a little longer than decus-silvae.
